This is a creative retreat, based on Henri Nouwen's book Can you drink the cup?
Through the week, Dani's input on the theme of the Cup of Life will be given be under the headings of
- The Question
- Holding the cup
- Lifting the cup
- Drinking the cup
- Draining the cup
- The Answer
This retreat-holiday also offers the opportunity to play with clay as part of the spiritual journey, as we each make our own cup or chalice out of clay. Absolutely no experience of potting is required - and the process of creation is far more important than the objective quality of the final product!
For the pottery workshops, we shall "go down to the potter's house" (as in Jeremiah 18:2). The potter is the closest neighbour to losOlivos and her house is shown bottom right in this photograph - you can choose whether to walk down (and up) or get a lift.

As well as going down to the potter's house, we shall have two excursions in the course of the week. The first is included in the package. It will be to the local village of Nigüelas, where we shall visit a charming little museum about olive oil pressing. (Did you know that the word Gethsemane meant "oil press"?) We shall also have the opportunity to buy our own lunch in a rather good tapas bar.
The other excursion is an optional extra, as some people may not feel up to the walking involved or may simply wish to spend the day savouring the peace of losOlivos. This excursion will be to the stunning, fairytale palaces and gardens of the Alhambra in Granada, which date back to the mid 14th century and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site: This excursion is subject to a minimum of four people wanting to go.
