Gozo

"Between a rock and a hard place"

Contemplation on Comino

Gozo is the second largest island of the archipelago of Malta. It is a small island, measuring no more than 14 kms by 7 kms, and has a population of about 25,000.

Horse and churchA large part of its charm is that it has not yet been invaded by mass tourism. The feel is of 20 or 30 years ago, with a gentle pace of life. There isn't much to do on Gozo, which makes it easier not to feel guilty about doing nothing very much.

Phone boxThe Maltese Republic (which includes Gozo) obtained independence from Britain in 1964. It is a member of both the Commonwealth and the European Community. The official languages are Maltese and English. The unit of currency is the euro. Malta and Gozo use British-style 3-pin plugs and a 220v power supply. Other reminders of the British heritage include red phone-boxes and blue lamps outside police stations.

Our retreat-holidays are based in
Manresa Retreat-House on the edge of Victoria (also called Rabat), the capital of Gozo. They include excursions to places which we feel will foster prayer.
