Italy: the Alban Hills, near Rome:
Seek His Face

Creation of man, Sistine Chapel

According to UNESCO, over 60% of the world's art treasures are to be found in Italy. It seems a logical place in which to reflect on images of the divine in art! This retreat-holiday will also explore our non-visual images of God - see the Programme page for more information.

The Alban Hills are situated just south-east of Rome. Ever since Ancient Roman times, they have been a favourite place of retreat from the bustle of the city. The local area is known as the Castelli Romani, the Roman Castles. It includes Frascati, Grottaferrata, Marino, Rocca di Papa, Genzano, Ariccia and Monteporzio.

Lake Albano by night panorama

Castel Gandolfo

Our base will be a wonderful location with a majestic view across Lake Albano to Castel Gandolfo, where the Pope has his summer residence.

St Peter's Square

An hour or so away is Rome itself, one of the greatest cities the world has ever known.  We shall have an excursion into Rome, where you can choose what you want to do for the day.

Madonna and child, Vatican Museums

Given our theme of Seek His Face, our suggestion would be to visit the Sistine Chapel and some of the astonishing art collections of the Vatican Museums.
