Spain: Royal Scots College, Salamanca

The Royal Scots College has centuries of history in Spain, but has been based in its present building only since 1988. It started out as a seminary, but now, following a major refurbishment, it is a very comfortable and welcoming house of hospitality for Christian groups and individuals. The photograph above shows some of the wonderful, prayerful stained glass windows in the chapel.
Although built in the 1960s, the architecture of the College follows the traditional pattern of a cloister round a courtyard.
The public rooms include a bar, a sitting room and a reading room. The food is good and wine is served with main meals, with drinking water available from a water cooler at all times of day. There is free internet access in the computer room (both wifi and via a house computer). There is also a washing machine available to guests.
The bedrooms are comfortable and all en suite and there is a lift to all floors. The College is a brisk 20-25 minutes’ walk from the centre of town, but it is also possible to go in by loal bus or taxi.
There is a large riverside park five minutes’ walk away from the College - a good place to go and pray.
